FRIENDS' AGM
St
Nicholas Church Hall. 7:30pm. Your chance to air your
views on The Friends of St Nicholas and our activities.
There will be a report from the Chairman, the Secretary
and the Treasurer, who will present a set of accounts.
After
our discussions, tea and cakes will be served, followed
by a talk by the Rev. Brian Shannon on the St Nicholas
Church Heritage Diaries.
SATURDAY 1 MAY
VE DAY CELEBRATIONS, ROYAL GUNPOWDER MILLS, WALTHAM ABBEY
Step
back in time and enjoy a day out in this 170-acre historic
landscape. Kept secret for over 300 years, the fascinating
stories of what went on behind closed doors is still unfolding
today.
Visit
the award-winning interactive exhibition and film, which
reveals the changing face of gunpowder and explosives,
and the scientific advances that impacted on British and
worldwide history. You can also visit Waltham Abbey.
Stroll
round what has now become a haven for wildlife and admire
the historic buildings. Try and spot the deer that live
in the woodland, and look out for herons, kingfishers
and other wildlife. You can take an optional tractor-trailer
tour with a guide to delight you with tales of the site.
There
is a café serving hot and cold snacks, drinks andice
cream all day, or you can take a picnic. There is also
a gift shop.

ROYAL PAVILION, BRIGHTON
For
200 years, John Nash's extraordinary oriental fantasy
has been inextricably linked with the identity of Brighton.
It has provoked controversy, inspired fervent adulation
and, throughout its colourful history, become one of the
most instantly identifiable architectural images in the
world.
It
takes its unique character from the man for whom it was
built, George IV, and its magnificent interior is a reflection
of his personality and Regency reign.
Free
audio guides provide a fascinating background and factual
information as you take your tour of the Royal Pavilion.
Follow
on with a visit to the Brighton Museum & Art Gallery,
which is located in the Royal Pavilion gardens. Its rich
collections and exciting exhibits are dynamically displayed
in stimulating surroundings. Entrance is free.
Take
a break from your tour and relax in the spacious tearoom
on the upper floor, with its sunny balcony overlooking
the glorious Royal Pavilion gardens.
After
your visit to the Pavilion you can enjoy time shopping
in the Lanes or visit the marina, or just stroll along
the prom.

CANTERBURY CATHEDRAL

of Canterbury, the cathedral is both a holy place and
part of a World Heritage site.

out more about the history of this magnificent building.
including stories of Thomas Becket and the first Archbishop
of Canterbury, Augustine.You
will also see stunning stained glass, recognised as one
of its great treasures.
After
your visit to the cathedral, spend time looking around
this wonderful city, or get in a bit of shopping.
